The short version: Chat Overlay collects nothing. No data leaves your browser. No servers. No accounts. No tracking.

No data collected

Chat Overlay is a browser extension that runs entirely on your device. It does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information whatsoever.

There are no servers. There is no database. There is no analytics. There is no crash reporting. Nothing leaves your machine.

What the extension does

The extension connects directly from your browser to Twitch’s IRC servers, Kick’s Pusher API, and YouTube’s chat DOM. These are read-only, real-time connections used solely to display chat messages in the overlay. Channel names you enter are stored locally in your browser’s chrome.storage.local — they never leave your device.

Permissions explained

The extension requests permission to run on all URLs so it can display the overlay on any site you visit (chess.com, gaming sites, etc.). It does not read page content, intercept requests, or interact with any page other than to inject the overlay UI.

Third-party services

When you connect a channel, your browser makes a direct WebSocket connection to Twitch, Kick, or YouTube. Those connections are subject to their respective privacy policies. Chat Overlay has no control over, and is not responsible for, those services.

Chrome Web Store & Google API policies

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
